How To Participate in a Twitter Party

Twitter Parties are a fun way to connect with a group of people who all share your interests and love getting together to chat. Promotional Book Tours offers Twitter Parties for authors and the readers who want to get to know them a bit better. During the party, you can expect to answer questions, tweet with others, and win prizes!

So, how do you participate in a Twitter Party?

1. Have a Twitter account. If you don’t currently have a Twitter account, you can open one at for free.

2. Follow the host and the sponsor. This information will be provided in the blog post for each individual party. To follow them, you will simply click on the link provided in the post and click the “follow” button.

3. RSVP to the party to be eligible for prizes. Each party post will contain a linky where you will RSVP to the party using your twitter handle and a link to your twitter profile.

4. Follow along with the party hashtag (#). Once the party starts, it moves very fast, so you will want to develop a good way to follow along. To help you out, we will always create a custom Tweet Grid that you can use to follow the party. All you will have to do is click on the link we provide in the party post and login using your Twitter account. Once you are in the Tweet Grid, you will see one column with the # to follow tweets from everyone at the party, one column to follow your host and sponsor, and the third you can use to enter your twitter handle so that you can see if anyone mentions you.

5. Parties normally last an hour or so. The host will wrap up the party once it has ended and touch base with any prize winners after the party is over.

What is the hashtag (#) for? Why is it so important?

A hashtag is a way to track the tweets that occur during a party. It is also a way for your fellow party-goers to be able to find your tweets and respond to you. The party hashtag will be a keyword specially chosen to represent that party only and you must include it in all tweets during the party in order to be eligible for prizes.

Let’s get the party started!

The host will start the party and begin asking questions. Follow your host closely and ensure that you are responding directly to her for the questions asked. For example: A host would tweet something like this:

Q1: What is your favorite book? #UniqueHashtag

You would then hit reply to the host, because you are replying to her tweet. So, your answer would look something like this:

@gracioushost Q1: My favorite book is Romeo and Juliet #UniqueHashtag

Please note that you only have 140 characters to type in that little box, so you should word your tweet accordingly.

To make it easier for you, the Tweet Grid program automatically puts the hashtag (#) at the end of the post for you. If you use another program, or simply just use Twitter directly in your

browser to participate in the party, you might copy the hashtag so that you can paste it in each time you tweet.

Fun Facts

If you ask a direct question to the party host during a party and she don’t respond back, please don’t be offended. Odds are that she is just very busy running the party. You can always send her a Direct Message to answer after the party is over.

Twitter Jail – Twitter parties are full of people tweeting and retweeting messages, but please make sure that you don’t get too tweet happy or else you will be thrown in the slammer! It is said that if you tweet over 100 times per hour or 1000 times per day you are at risk of landing yourself in Twitter Jail (where you are locked out of your account for a period of an hour or so). It is encouraged to converse and retweet people during the party, but please know your limits so that you can continue to party the entire hour with us!

Retweeting messages from the host and the sponsor are encouraged during the party so that others don’t miss the message.

If prizes are offered during the party, the prize information will be located in the official post for that party. Prizes are chosen at random and the user must be on the RSVP list and participating in order to be eligible to win. If you are chosen for a prize, it will be announced during the party like this:

Congratulations @yourhandle You have won the 1st prize #UniqueHashtag Please DM me your information.

This means that you should direct message the host your information. If you win an ebook, the host needs your name and email, or if you win a swag pack the host would need your shipping address.

If you have any questions about participating in Twitter Parties, please send us a note! We are party pros and would be glad to answer any questions that would help make your experience even better!
