Edger by David Beem

Edger

by David Beem

Meet Edger (Ed-jer), a twenty-six-year-old gadget retail dork destined to become the world’s first superhero!

His superpower: the ability to channel the Collective Unconscious, a psychic network connecting the living and the dead. In his arsenal are the skills of Bruce Lee, the strength of Samson, the wisdom of the ages…and the dancing chops of Michael Jackson—including that one twisty foot move, crotch grab, and fedora tilt.

But there’s a catch…

Like every psychic superpower to get administered through a hypodermic needle, this one comes with a prick. Someone seems to have misplaced the booster necessary for stabilizing his superpower. Without it, Edger has three days before his brain turns to pudding.

Join our Dork of Destiny as he overcomes the world’s greatest butt, two rival Cluck-n-Pray gangs, an evil cow, a Green Bay Defensive Tackle, rifle-toting assassins—and a pair of stoners who inadvertently create the world’s first supervillain after a wild night on Twitter!

“…undeniably entertaining.” – Kirkus Reviews

Interview with Author David Beem

Try to describe your book in one sentence.

It’s a comedy about a computer nerd whose world is turned upside down by a sexy spy to become the world’s first superhero.

State a random fact about yourself that would surprise your readers.

I’m hiding in your pantry right now, eating all your crackers.

If you wouldn’t be a writer, what you would be?

         Hitman. I’d totally kill it.

Do you read reviews written about your book?

I do. Not only that, I obtain the names and addresses of all the trolls out there. So keep it up, Brenda!

Who is your favorite character in your new release?

Shmuel. Balding, early forties. Been stoned since his twenties (ostensibly to manage his hemorrhoids). He’s the getaway driver for the A-Team, and underest under achiever to ever under achieve.

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Shmuel. For I, too, am confused by adulthood and stuff. For I, too, am the getaway driver—only for me the getting away driving is usually for my wife at a Meijer.

What inspired you to write, you took any ideas from other books, movies etc?

Edger arose like the Sword of Justice at twilight from a placid lake…after binge-watching Chuck on Netflix. The queen and I were devastated to have arrived at the end. We wanted more. Determined, I went down, down, down to the magician’s quarters. We plotted, then pantsed it. Together, we stirred the cauldron: One part, Chuck, one part Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and one part superhero movies (for the magician’s daughter is smitten with superhero action movie Chrises). And lo, Edger was born.

Do you have an all-time favorite book?

         Good Omens.

Do you prefer Twitter or Facebook?

         Facebook.

The last book you’ve read?

         Stick Dog Chases a Pizza.

Anything else you would like to add?

Yes. Eventually I realized, alas, that the main purpose of eating Pringles is to finish them…alone, broken, and friendless.
