Wicked Rebel Release and $100 Contest

I was just getting used to my life back in Kansas, when I suddenly return to Oz, without Toto or the magic shoes that put me here. Time operates differently in both worlds, and though only four months has passed for me, more than two years have progressed in Oz.

And in that time, I’d somehow become a legend.

One of my boys has become a king. And the other two have been taken captive by the Witch of the South.

In order to stop a rebellion and help the shifter brothers, I have to take on a new item of power and become something I never thought I would… the Wicked Witch of the West.

I have no idea what’s happening to me.
When a tornado dropped my car in a land of short, wild people, I was shocked. With no way to get home, no idea where I was and no clue how to communicate with the muchkins, I was completely out of luck. Then I found out that my car had landed on someone and killed them. Supposedly she was the Wicked Witch of the East.
If that wasn’t bad enough, now her ruby slippers magically appear on my feet, and slowly, I’m becoming her.
Now I need to get to Emerald City and see the Wizard if I want to stop the transformation and return home. But the yellow brick road is no cake-walk, and I don’t know what I’ll find at the end of this journey. Luckily, I have three brothers I meet along the way to help me on my journey. Each of them is vying for my affection, as if it doesn’t matter that my skin is turning green.
Wicked Origins is a modern YA Fantasy Retelling of L. Frank Baum’s original Oz tales.

A Buzz about Campus: The Oak Grove Chronicles: Book 1

Without gratuitous gore and steamy sex, A Buzz About Campus is a captivating mystery. In the fictional California county of Oak Grove, the university’s provost dies in his office, the victim of an apparent heart attack. But the autopsy reveals that he was murdered–by a means most diabolical.

The unusual crime is investigated by Alan Bluestein, Senior Detective in the sheriff’s department, and Professor Laura Mancini, a forensic archaeologist at the university. Bluestein and Mancini enjoy an evolving relationship based on mutual trust and respect even though lust simmers just below the surface. Insights into faculty life and pokes at administrators will amuse readers familiar with universities. Taking unexpected twists and turns, the quest to identify the killer is a warmhearted blend of silly and serious that will intrigue and delight the reader.

About the Author -Born in 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, Annette’s family moved to Los Angeles when she was one year old. She had what she considered to be a very typical life in a household with a father who worked at the family dry cleaning business, an at-home mom (from whom Annette gets her silly side and somewhat warped imagination). Annette considered her life to be ordinary until she met the love of her life, Michael Brian Schiffer, at the ripe old age of 17. They got married during their senior year at UCLA, graduated, and continued on what has been a life-long adventure together. After Michael finished graduate school at the University of Arizona, they lived for two years in Fayetteville, Arkansas and spent almost 40 years in Tucson, Arizona where Mike was a professor at the U of A. They retired to Alexandria, Virginia.

Interview –

A common misconception entwined with authors is that they are socially inept, how true is that?

I (Mike) tend to be an introvert, but I wouldn’t consider myself socially inept.  I’m friendly, but am also content to spend hour after alone writing or making pottery.
Do all authors have to be grammar Nazis?

I (Mike) detest books that that are not grammatical.  I think poor grammar detracts from content, and so I may border on being a grammar stickler.  Nazi is a term overused, which tends to perpetuate ignorance about the enormity of Third Reich horrors.

If you could have been the original author of any book, what would it have been and why?

I (Mike) do not suffer from author envy.  I’ve read many books that I have enjoyed immensely, but I do not wish I had written any of them because they were in another author’s style.  I’ve cultivated my own style.
What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special?

Cozy mysteries, our genre, contain believable characters and somewhat believable plots.  Writing them is special because it requires intellectual acrobatics to get all the plot elements to fit together into a coherent narrative.  We enjoy meeting the challenges in book after book.

How important is research to you when writing a book?

I(Mike) rely on research extensively to gain credibility.  I also believe that describing a place or event as specifically as possible improves the reader’s mental visualization.

What works best for you: Typewriters, fountain pen, dictate, computer or longhand?

Mike:  In my long history of writing fiction and nonfiction (almost 50 years and more than 15 books), I have used everything above except dictation.  These days my preferred writing technology is computer, but I have no hesitation writing in longhand.  In fact, I just wrote half a book that way while were staying in Seville, Spain.
